The role of a volunteer director is to provide strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring the credit union operates in a way that is financially sound, legally compliant, and aligned with the needs of our members.
Role: Volunteer Board Member
Reports To: Members and the Credit Union Board
Main Purpose of the Role:
As a Volunteer Board Member, you'll play a crucial part in the strategic direction and success of our credit union. Your main responsibilities include:
- Shaping the Future: Help create policies and plans to guide the credit union's future goals.
- Ensuring Financial Health: Evaluate our financial performance to ensure the credit union remains strong and healthy.
- Maintaining Compliance: Make sure all operations are in line with the law and our internal policies.
- Advocating for Members: Represent the credit union to our members and the wider community, ensuring our services meet their needs.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Approve the credit union’s budget, set lending and savings rates, and recommend an annual dividend.
- Operational Management: Oversee the procurement of goods and services and ensure we have the right staff structure and systems in place.
- Leadership & Governance: Approve the General Manager’s job description and appointment and ensure a business recovery plan is in place.
Knowledge & Participation: Attend regular Board meetings and other committees and stay up to date on relevant credit union laws and procedures through training.
